POPIA privacy notice
A plain-language explanation of what we collect, why we need it and the choices available to you.
Last updated: 19 October 2026Buy a Trailer (Pty) Ltd, registration number 2025/082130/07, is the responsible party for personal information processed through this website and our sales process. The company’s Information Officer contact is Brenton Rungasamy, reachable for privacy and access requests at sales@buyatrailer.co.za.
Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect your name, contact details, province or delivery location, company details, trailer or spare requirements, vehicle or fitment information, order references, payment status, correspondence and documents needed for an optional registration-assistance service.
Our systems may also receive ordinary technical information such as IP address, browser type, security logs and the pages used. Card details are entered on Yoco’s hosted checkout and are not stored by Buy a Trailer.
We process information to answer enquiries, recommend and quote products, confirm fitment and stock, conclude and perform orders, match payments, arrange collection or delivery, assist with registration when requested, prevent fraud, keep lawful business records and comply with legal obligations.
We use information only where there is a lawful reason, such as taking steps requested before a contract, performing a contract, complying with law, protecting legitimate business and security interests, or acting on consent where consent is required.
We share only what is reasonably necessary with service providers involved in an order, which may include Yoco, Venter Trailers or relevant product suppliers, collection or delivery providers, professional advisers, technology providers and public authorities involved in registration or legal compliance.
If you actively request an optional insurance introduction, we may share your name, approved contact details, province and selected trailer with an authorised insurance provider so that provider may contact you about a quotation. We do not share this information for an insurance referral unless you opt in.
These parties process information under their own legal duties or under appropriate service arrangements. We do not sell personal information.
Name and contact information, the selected product, province and information needed to create, secure and fulfil an order are required for the transaction. Delivery details are required only when delivery is requested. Registration documents, finance enquiries, insurance introductions and marketing preferences are optional unless the customer chooses that service. Without required order information we may be unable to quote, take payment, prevent fraud or fulfil the purchase.
Buy a Trailer is not the insurer and does not provide insurance advice, recommend a policy, determine premiums, accept insurance payments or decide claims. Any quotation, advice, policy and related communication is provided directly by the authorised insurance provider under its own regulatory and privacy obligations.
An insurance introduction is optional, is not a condition of buying a trailer and may be withdrawn before we share the lead by contacting us. Once the provider has received the information, its own privacy notice applies.
We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect information from loss, misuse, unauthorised access or disclosure. No online system is risk-free, but access is limited to people and providers who need it for the stated purpose.
Records are retained only for as long as needed for the purpose collected, warranty and dispute handling, fraud prevention, and applicable company, tax or other legal record-keeping obligations. Information that is no longer required is deleted, destroyed or de-identified where reasonably practicable.
If we reasonably believe personal information has been accessed or acquired by an unauthorised person, we will investigate and make the notifications required by POPIA.
Some technology, payment, communications or hosting providers may process information outside South Africa. Where applicable, we use providers and arrangements intended to provide protection consistent with POPIA’s cross-border requirements. We share only the information reasonably necessary for the relevant service.
Submitting an enquiry or order does not automatically subscribe a person to unrelated marketing. Electronic marketing is sent only where permitted by POPIA, and every recipient may opt out without charge. Transactional messages about a quotation, payment, collection, delivery, registration, warranty or support request are not marketing messages.
You may ask whether we hold your personal information, request access or correction, object to certain processing, withdraw consent where processing relies on consent, or request deletion where the law permits it. We may need to verify identity before acting on a request.
You may opt out of direct marketing at any time. You may also lodge a complaint with South Africa’s Information Regulator.
The website uses essential browser storage for features such as the shopping cart and may use security or session technologies needed to operate forms, checkout and private order access. We do not use this notice as consent for non-essential advertising tracking. Links to external services, including Yoco and your chosen email provider, are governed by those providers’ own privacy notices once you leave this website.
We may update this notice when our services, providers or legal obligations change. The current version and revision date will remain available here. Send privacy questions or requests to sales@buyatrailer.co.za.
